Internal Spaces (Late Grad School work) Urban Spaces

Internal Spaces was an investigation into the internal depths of modern buildings.
These paintings and drawings showed dark, hidden spaces
above tile ceilings, behind walls, and in boiler rooms. These spaces intrigue me because
they contrast with the ordinary, surface view of the buildings. These
secluded places within the buildings invite new perspectives, and represent
that which lies beyond our usual space, our usual way of seeing.

Within the concealed architectural skeleton of beams, wires, ductwork,
and ceiling tiles, warm light sources penetrate the darkness. The obscured
source of light suggests mystery and spirituality. The light may also evoke
the feeling of a presence.

Early Grad School work Urban Spaces

Much of my early grad school work was driven by looking for places of refuge within urban spaces -- which I often perceived to be stifling and alienating.  I learned in grad school to distill my work and I eventually removed the human figure -- which led to my current body of work.

Late undergrad / Post-undergrad work

This was when I was still using a set of figures in a 'container' to tell a story.  Of course I have my own story about the meaning of each piece, but the viewer will bring their own meaning.  Some of the work shows my influence from Cezanne, George Tooker, Henry Koerner, and Fran Panza.
